Renate Neumann — Scenic Nevada Heroe
Renate was born and raised in southern Germany. She studied in Stuttgart and earned a Masters of Arts degree from the university in Munich.
She moved to New York City in 1964 and worked as a commercial artist in Manhattan for five years before coming to Reno, where she married her husband of 36 years, attorney Peter Chase Neumann. She became a naturalized American citizen in 1976.
Renate worked for several years for Tyson Curtis and Wilson and Doyle & McKenna Advertising agencies. She later did freelance work and then specialized in painting the beautiful Nevada outdoors and its people. Since 1994 Renate has been in charge of the Portrait Society of Reno, comprised of artists who have been meeting weekly for nearly fifty years, to paint portraits of live models.
She is also serving on the board of the Angel Kiss Foundation which she was instrumental in getting started in 1999 to help local families who have children afflicted with cancer.
Renate loves Nevada and enjoys living by the Truckee River in the oldest neighborhood of Reno. Her hobbies have always included skiing, soaring, organic gardening and hiking.
