Scenic Nevada Selects 2006 Photo Contest Winners
Each year Scenic Nevada and Nevada Office Machines sponsor a Photography Contest highlighting Nevada's scenic beauty and blight. We want to create an awareness of the importance of "preserving, protecting and enhancing the scenic character of Nevada and it's roadways".
Judges of over 355 individual photographic entries from throughout Nevada were: Bob Goodman, photographer, writer and naturalist; Neal Cobb, photographer and historian; Jack Hursh, photographer; Jerry Fenwick, historian and Dave Hollecker, former CBS film editor.

Top Right Photo -- The beauty and history of Nevada are displayed by the rolling green hills of spring and a very labor-intense branch fenceline, with the cows roaming freely in the distant hillside." Taken between Fort Goicoechea Ranch and Riff Ranch near Wild Horse Reservoir in Elko County
Top Left Photo -- This photo shows the blight of Nevada through a construction scene. Nevada is the fastest growing state in the nation. This is portrayed through this portrait of tractor tires, showing literal ground-breaking and Nevada's strained future." Photo taken in Verdi.
Winners in the Adult Division-Beauty Category were: 1st Place Diane McAllister, Reno, NV $100.00 (Top Left Photo ); 2nd Place Karen Branzell, Spring Creek, NV $50.00 (Top Right Photo ); 3rd Place Robert E. Rollins, Reno, NV $25.00 (Bottom Left Photo ) and Honorable Mention John Bauer, Carson City, NV, Certificate. (Bottom Right Photo )
Top Left Photo -- Bobcats are nocturnal and sightings are infrequent. You can imagine how ecstatic I was to not only view but to photograph this adult female. Strangely enough, her den is in southwest Reno, within city limits! She must have felt comfortable in her surroundings, as she produced a litter of five! We must continue to keep open spaces available for wildlife habitat. It is crucial for their survival. With careful planning, we can all co-exist, and sightings such as this will continue."
Top Right Photo -- Second place, adult division: BEAUTY. "The area was filled with aspens and hummingbirds. This is the Nevada you don't see if you stay on I-80! Nevada's offroad beauty is a few dusty miles away." Taken near Coon Creek Summit, 12 miles south of Jarbidge.
Bottom Left Photo -- Third place, adult division: BEAUTY. "This image was taken out in the Red Rock Road area. The rusty old water troughs by themselves could be called blight, but given the right setting, it's nothing but scenic beauty."
Bottom Right Phtos -- Austin Nevada, in the winter time.
