Each year Scenic Nevada and Nevada Office Machines sponsor a Photography Contest highlighting Nevada's scenic beauty and blight. We want to create an awareness of the importance of "preserving, protecting and enhancing the scenic character of Nevada and it's roadways".
2005 Scenic Nevada Photo Contest Winners
Students from Henderson and Elko were the big winners in the fourth annual Scenic Nevada photo contest held statewide for students in fifth grade through high school.
Rachel Andersen received first place and Teresa Padilla received second place. Third place honors and $25 went to Mandy Kolhoss, a senior at Moapa Valley High School, Moapa. Honorable mentions and certificates in the category for beauty went to the following Coronado High School students; Tanya Zamudio, Donata Aus der Wieschen, Stephanie Bousseau and Jennifer Monzon. In the blight category, seventh grader Amanda Boyce from Spring Creek Middle School, Elko took first and second place, with a cash award totaling $150. Melanie Stafford, an eighth grader from Leavitt Junior High School, Las Vegas, won the third place honor, receiving a check for $25. About The Contest: The contest, "The View from Nevada's Roads - Signs or Scenery" was held in April. This year's judges were photographer and local historian, Neal Cobb of Reno, along with Reno Gazette Journal Photographer Marilyn Newton and Jack Hursh, also a photographer from Reno. Each spring Scenic Nevada and Nevada Office Machines sponsor the photo contest for students to create an awareness of the importance of "preserving, protecting and enhancing the scenic character of Nevada and its roadways. Judges are asked to review the photos for originality, creativity and imagination, along with photographic quality. The photos submitted by students were depictions of the positive or negative affects a community or its roadsides has on Nevada's scenic beauty.
