Christi Cakiroglu — Scenic Nevada Heroe

Christi Cakiroglu grew up in Washoe Valley and graduated from Wooster High School. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and double minors in Journalism and Geography from the University of Oregon, she spent a year living overseas and then returned home to the Truckee Meadows to start a volunteer program for United Way called Hands On Northern Nevada.

Christi has always found ways to be active in the community starting at the age of nine with volunteer activities organized by local 4-H clubs. Most recently she has served on the Board of The Note-Ables, Truckee Meadows Tomorrow, and as President of Soroptimist International of Reno. It wasn’t until 2002 when she was hired as the Executive Director of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) that she found the perfect blend of program variety and community service. KTMB is dedicated to creating a cleaner more beautiful region through education and active community involvement.

KTMB works to achieve its mission through a variety of programs including neighborhood, open space and river cleanups, Adopt-A-Spot roadside litter pickup, the Litter Index, Adopt-A-Park, Christmas Tree and Phone Book Recycling, and educational programs for youth including Paper Making Workshops and Waste Warriors. Now Christi spends the majority of her time coordinating and assisting with cleanup and beautification efforts throughout the Truckee Meadows.
